Different Rug Weaving Techniques

A guide into different types of rug weaving.

There are many different types of rugs on the market, Here are some examples you can find here at Rug Love.

Flatweave Rugs:

These rugs are “flat” and have no pile; They are made on a loom rather than being knotted, which means they do not have a pile. As the name suggests, this method of weaving means that flatweave rugs can be very slim-line and flat.

Machine Made Rugs:

Machine made rugs are made by large machines called power looms. A power loom is electrically automated and can be controlled by computers. Machine made rugs can be made quickly and are manufactured with materials, which include, wool and synthetic fibres such as nylon, polyester, acrylic or polypropylene.

Hand Made Rugs:

They are made entirely from all natural materials such as wool, cotton or silk. No synthetic materials are used. Even the dyes are mostly extracted from plant parts and other materials found in nature.
