Product Description:
The Tate Smoke Rug blends warmth, depth, and texture through its beautifully structured tonal composition. Handmade in India from a premium 60% wool and 40% viscose blend, this design features a 10 mm high-density, hand-carved pile that defines the clean geometry of each section. The interplay between matte wool fibres and silky viscose threads creates a layered surface with both softness and movement, shifting subtly in the light.
The Smoke colourway combines warm taupe and mushroom brown tones with soft beige and cloud-grey marbling, achieving harmony between earthy richness and refined neutrality. Each panel offers its own texture — some velvety and luminous, others dense and muted — giving this rug exceptional visual and tactile depth. Perfect for contemporary or transitional interiors, it complements wood finishes, neutral upholstery, and metallic décor accents beautifully.
Warm Taupe – The dominant background tone, anchoring the design with warmth and balance.
Soft Beige – Featured across the mid-toned wool panels, adding lightness and soft transition.
Mushroom Brown – Used in select geometric blocks, introducing earthy sophistication.
Cloud Grey – Found in marbled viscose areas, adding delicate movement and tonal layering.
Stone Beige – Present in the lighter panels, enhancing natural harmony and depth.
The Tate Smoke Rug combines structured geometry with organic texture, creating a calm, refined aesthetic rich in tactile appeal. Its warm neutral palette, sculpted surface, and subtle light-reactive sheen deliver timeless elegance, making it an ideal foundation for living rooms, dining areas, and soft, inviting spaces.
Important Note
The Tate collection features a viscose blend that naturally produces a light-reflective sheen. As a result, the rug’s shade will appear lighter or darker depending on the lighting and viewing angle. This rug also displays directional shading — the colour tone changes depending on how the pile is brushed, similar to the natural shading found in traditional carpets.
🐑 Handmade Wool Rug Characteristics
Our handmade wool rugs are individually crafted, so each one is unique with natural variations known as abrash in colour, size, design, pattern, yarn, stitching, and texture. Shedding is normal and expected with all wool rugs — sometimes lasting for the rug’s entire life — but it does not affect durability. Loose fibres and stray threads can simply be trimmed with scissors (never pulled) to avoid damage. These natural characteristics, along with mixed yarn colours, slight imperfections, and subtle texture differences, add charm and authenticity rather than being faults. Synthetic latex backing may create a temporary smell, and wool may have a natural, earthy scent which fades over time. If you prefer a perfectly uniform look, machine-made synthetic rugs may be more suitable, and any exchange will still have its own unique variations.
