Product Description:
The Tate Sand Rug exudes warmth and natural elegance through its beautifully balanced composition of texture and tone. Expertly handmade in India from a premium 60% wool and 40% viscose blend, this rug features a 10 mm high-density pile with precision hand-carved detailing that accentuates its geometric layout. The design combines soft matte wool sections with lustrous viscose panels, creating a modern patchwork that shifts subtly under changing light.
The sand-toned palette radiates an inviting, sunlit warmth, enhanced by the interplay of velvety shimmer and smooth, structured form. Each block contributes a unique texture — from plush sheen to dense softness — resulting in a sophisticated and tactile finish. This versatile design brings a calming, organic tone to living rooms, bedrooms, or contemporary interiors, pairing beautifully with natural woods, neutral fabrics, and soft textiles.
Sand – The primary tone, forming a warm and neutral foundation across the design.
Beige – Used throughout the central panels to create smooth tonal transitions.
Champagne – Found in the viscose sections, reflecting light with a subtle golden shimmer.
Camel – Introduces depth and richness, grounding the lighter tones and adding warmth.
Taupe – Woven through select wool areas, adding balance and understated contrast.
The Tate Sand Rug harmonises modern geometry with organic warmth, showcasing a delicate balance of matte wool and shimmering viscose for a layered, luminous effect. Its hand-carved detailing enhances depth and dimension, while the 10 mm dense pile ensures comfort underfoot. With its tonal depth, tactile sophistication, and timeless palette, this rug offers a refined statement of contemporary luxury, perfect for neutral, minimalist, or nature-inspired interiors.
Important Note
The Tate collection features a viscose blend that naturally produces a light-reflective sheen. As a result, the rug’s shade will appear lighter or darker depending on the lighting and viewing angle. This rug also displays directional shading — the colour tone changes depending on how the pile is brushed, similar to the natural shading found in traditional carpets.
🐑 Handmade Wool Rug Characteristics
Our handmade wool rugs are individually crafted, so each one is unique with natural variations known as abrash in colour, size, design, pattern, yarn, stitching, and texture. Shedding is normal and expected with all wool rugs — sometimes lasting for the rug’s entire life — but it does not affect durability. Loose fibres and stray threads can simply be trimmed with scissors (never pulled) to avoid damage. These natural characteristics, along with mixed yarn colours, slight imperfections, and subtle texture differences, add charm and authenticity rather than being faults. Synthetic latex backing may create a temporary smell, and wool may have a natural, earthy scent which fades over time. If you prefer a perfectly uniform look, machine-made synthetic rugs may be more suitable, and any exchange will still have its own unique variations.
