Product Description:
The Tate Charcoal Grey Rug captures the essence of contemporary design through a refined blend of structure, texture, and tone. Handmade in India from a luxurious mix of 60% wool and 40% viscose, it features a 10mm high-density pile with hand-carved definition that brings its sculpted geometry to life. The contrasting matte wool and lustrous viscose panels create a sophisticated tonal patchwork, where light and shadow shift subtly across the surface.
Its abstract geometric layout combines precision with organic texture — a modern reinterpretation of minimalism softened by tactile marbling and sheen. The Charcoal, Graphite, and Silver Grey palette flows effortlessly between blocks, while the delicate metallic shimmer of viscose fibres enhances the rug’s luxurious depth.
Perfect for modern, minimalist, or industrial-inspired interiors, this rug provides an elegant foundation with visual movement and understated glamour.
Charcoal Grey – The dominant base, creating a bold, grounding foundation that anchors the design.
Steel Grey – Layered throughout, balancing darker tones with refined neutrality.
Graphite – Adding subtle depth and dimension in shadowed areas.
Silver Grey – Infused with lustrous viscose fibres, catching light to reveal a brushed metallic sheen.
Slate – Merging matte and sheen panels for a smooth, tonal transition.
The Tate Charcoal Grey Rug is a masterclass in tonal layering and geometric artistry. Its hand-carved detailing, sculpted depth, and marbled viscose texture introduce visual movement, while the luxurious wool-viscose blend ensures durability and softness underfoot. With its metallic shimmer and modern tonal palette, this piece adds warmth and architectural sophistication to any interior — effortlessly bridging modern design with timeless luxury.
Important Note
The Tate collection features a viscose blend that naturally produces a light-reflective sheen. As a result, the rug’s shade will appear lighter or darker depending on the lighting and viewing angle. This rug also displays directional shading — the colour tone changes depending on how the pile is brushed, similar to the natural shading found in traditional carpets.
🐑 Handmade Wool Rug Characteristics
Our handmade wool rugs are individually crafted, so each one is unique with natural variations known as abrash in colour, size, design, pattern, yarn, stitching, and texture. Shedding is normal and expected with all wool rugs — sometimes lasting for the rug’s entire life — but it does not affect durability. Loose fibres and stray threads can simply be trimmed with scissors (never pulled) to avoid damage. These natural characteristics, along with mixed yarn colours, slight imperfections, and subtle texture differences, add charm and authenticity rather than being faults. Synthetic latex backing may create a temporary smell, and wool may have a natural, earthy scent which fades over time. If you prefer a perfectly uniform look, machine-made synthetic rugs may be more suitable, and any exchange will still have its own unique variations.
