Product Description:
The Birkdale Pistachio Green Flatweave Rug is a hand-woven flatweave rug crafted from a durable blend of 65% wool and 35% polyester, combining the natural resilience, softness, and insulation of wool with the strength and durability of polyester fibres. Designed with a low-profile 4mm flatweave pile, this rug features a tight, textured looped weave that produces a dense, tactile surface with subtle natural texture. The rug presents a modern plain design enhanced by organic colour striations, where variations in the hand-spun yarn create gentle tonal movement across the surface.
Hand woven in India, each rug is produced using hand-spun fibres, meaning every piece displays unique tonal variation, natural irregularities, and individual character that reflect the handcrafted weaving process. The rug features a reversible construction, allowing it to be used on either side for extended longevity and practicality. With a pile weight of approximately 2.2 kg per square metre, the rug offers a substantial, durable feel underfoot while maintaining a slim, low-profile structure that fits easily beneath furniture. The rug is unbacked, meaning the woven construction is visible on both sides, and an anti-slip underlay is recommended to help keep the rug securely in place on smooth flooring.
The surface texture reveals a small looped wool weave with a slightly nubby finish, highlighting the natural fibre composition and handcrafted construction. Subtle horizontal striations run throughout the rug, giving it a softly layered appearance and organic visual depth, while occasional darker yarn flecks further emphasise the natural wool texture. This understated yet richly textured style makes the rug particularly suited to modern interiors, Scandinavian-inspired spaces, relaxed contemporary rooms, and nature-inspired décor schemes.
Pistachio Green – The dominant tone running throughout the rug, providing a soft muted green base that defines the overall colour identity.
Sage Green – Subtle variations within the yarn blend introduce gentle earthy green undertones that enhance the natural look of the rug.
Soft Moss Green – Slightly darker green strands appear within the woven loops, adding depth and tonal contrast across the surface.
Warm Linen Beige – Light neutral flecks woven through the yarn soften the palette and highlight the natural wool texture.
Oatmeal Cream – Pale wool fibres interspersed within the weave brighten the rug and create gentle tonal balance.
Natural Wool Taupe – Occasional muted taupe strands appear in the striated weave, grounding the colour palette with subtle contrast.
The Birkdale Pistachio Green Flatweave Rug offers a beautifully textured modern plain design enriched with natural fibre variation and handcrafted character. The interplay of Pistachio Green, Sage Green, Soft Moss Green, Warm Linen Beige, Oatmeal Cream, and Natural Wool Taupe creates a soft, earthy palette that brings warmth and subtle colour into interior spaces. Its hand-woven flatweave construction, 4mm low-profile pile, and durable wool–polyester blend ensure excellent durability while maintaining a comfortable feel underfoot. With its reversible design, organic striated pattern, and tactile woven texture, the Birkdale rug is ideal for living rooms, dining spaces, bedrooms, and relaxed contemporary interiors, offering a timeless balance of natural texture, durability, and understated style.
🐑 Handmade Wool Rug Characteristics
Our handmade wool rugs are individually crafted, so each one is unique with natural variations known as abrash in colour, size, design, pattern, yarn, stitching, and texture. Shedding is normal and expected with all wool rugs — sometimes lasting for the rug’s entire life — but it does not affect durability. Loose fibres and stray threads can simply be trimmed with scissors (never pulled) to avoid damage. These natural characteristics, along with mixed yarn colours, slight imperfections, and subtle texture differences, add charm and authenticity rather than being faults. Synthetic latex backing may create a temporary smell, and wool may have a natural, earthy scent which fades over time. If you prefer a perfectly uniform look, machine-made synthetic rugs may be more suitable, and any exchange will still have its own unique variations.
